81-year-old skydiver, dancing twins, among the top viral video stars of 2012

NBC’s Chuck Todd weighs in the current state of negotiations in the fiscal cliff crisis, saying it doesn’t look that both sides will budge before the deadline hits.

From Steve Fuehne, the fun dad whose terrified screams were caught on tape as he rode an amusement park ride with his 10-year-old daughter, to an 81-year-old skydiver who survived an almost fatal mishap, to Chloe and Alexis Rudner, the adorable 1-year-old identical twins who rocked out in unison, viral stars were born this year thanks to some great moments captured on video.

We've listed some of the top viral video stars of 2012 below: relive them again and tell us which were your favorites.

    1) Roller coaster dad's shrieks of terror while on ride with daughter

People couldn't get enough of Steve Fuehne's terrified screams as he rode an amusement park ride with his 10-year-old daughter. His yelps turned him into a YouTube sensation.

    2) Boyfriend pops the question with a choreographed performance to Bruno Mars’ 'Marry Me'

Women swooned and guys groaned when Isaac Lamb, 31, proposed to Amy Frankel, 33, both of Portland, Ore., in what he called the “first live lip-dub proposal.” The elaborate routine involved 60 of the couple’s friends and relations, who surprised the bride-to-be with a choreographed dance routine to the tune of “Marry You” by Bruno Mars. Within four days of its post on YouTube, the video had reached 5 million hits.

    3) 81-year-old skydiver survives near-deadly incident, during which she began to fall out of her harness

There's no stopping Laverne Everett. At 80, she fulfilled a longtime wish and went skydiving, but it nearly became the final item on her bucket list when she almost slipped completely out of her harness during a tandem jump last May at the Parachute Center in Lodi, Calif. A year after her frightening fall, the video of her jump was all anyone was talking about.

    4) Adorable twins rock out and dance in unison

There's no stopping these tots. Identical 1-year-old twins Chloe and Alexis Rudner became a viral hit when they were captured on home video rocking out in unison. Within days, more than 2.7 million people had viewed the clip of the two girls in high chairs, swaying back and forth with huge grins on their faces as their dad strummed the guitar.

    Famous bunnies of the Internet

    By Helen A.S. Popkin

"Between the death of Little Til, Herman Cain's dead rabbit ad, and the kidnapping of Miss Cooper, it's a bad time to be a bunny or bunny enthusiast," Gawker recently noted. Indeed, for lovers of all things lagomorph, it's best not to remember March at all. So, as we move forward to International Bunny Appreciation Day (which just so happens to coincide with Easter) this Sunday, let's cleanse our palates for April via this review of our very favorite bunny locations on the Internet.

    Cocoa-chan, the therapy rabbit

Cocoa-chan is featured in "Pray for Japan," a documentary about survivors of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Here’s how she’s described it on her Pray for Japan Facebook page:

    Pray for Japan/Facebook

Sometimes humans can't help people more than little furry critters can. There was a special rabbit, Cocoa, giving people traumatized by the tragedy a little unconditional love. I gave this very special volunteer a folder of her very own. Cocoa-chan is still on her mission of providing help and hope...Stu is making sure all her fans here on the page get to see new pictures of her.

     Daily Bunny

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift delivery of The Daily Bunny. Each and every day, you'll find a a fresh new bunny picture or video via the Daily Bunny Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook. Bunny fans are invited to submit photos and there’s even a Bunny FAQ. As the Daily Bunny blog promises: "Daily Bunny is daily!"

    Disapproving Rabbits

    Disapproving Rabbits

If bunnies with attitude are more your speed, then Disapproving Rabbits is the blog for you. It started as an inside joke between Sharon Stiteler and her husband Bill.

Over the years, the couple shared their home with a series of domesticated rabbits. Noting that relaxed rabbits share a frequent facial expression of disapproval, the couple scripted words for what they imagined their bunnies found distasteful and put them online. Fans sent in photos of their displeased house rabbits, and as is the way with popular blogs, a book deal ensued. Also, these awesome T-shirts!

    Roebling, the Brooklyn Bunny

    Brooklyn Bunny

    Roebling, the Brooklyn Bunny

The Brooklyn Bunny website, live streaming since Aug. 28, 2005, stars Roebling, a Dwarf Hotot rabbit with a fetching black eye who lives in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn.

Kevin Dresser and Kate Johnson of the design firm Dresser Johnson originally considered the two-camera streaming idea as part of a bunny-sitting service. The side business never came about, but the couple decided to keep the camera rolling after they adopted Roebling, whose antics can be enjoyed by the entire Internet, 24/7.

    30-Second Bunnies Theatre

Graphic artist Jennifer Shiman started 30-Second Bunnies Theatre in 2005 to help promote her digital design and illustration skills. Bunnies, she found, were the perfect animals to act out an idea for classic movie reenactments in 30 seconds flat, starting first with "The Exorcist" in 2005.

Six years and 68 reenactments later -- everything from "Titanic" to "Snakes on a Plane" -- the Bunnies went on permanant hiatus while Shiman pursues other projects. You can still enjoy the fruits of their labor in the 30-Second Bunnies Theatre Library website, or in DVD form.

In conclusion: Following bunnies on the Internet does come with a warning. Don’t let their virtual cuteness convince you to adopt a bunny IRL – unless you’re willing to accept the responsibility of caring for a bunny for its full life – around 10 years. Many of the bunnies appearing in the aforementioned Web sites were abandoned. What’s more, animal shelters are full of post-Easter presents that needed more care than their new owners realized. Just ask the House Rabbit Society.

Binary code marriage proposal wins human female's love

So, yeah. Marriages in the U.S. are on decline, except maybe among geeks — who are pairing up faster than penguins being narrated by Morgan Freeman, if these ongoing "viral marriage proposals" mean anything.

They don't. But here's some anecdotal evidence anyway! Now add to that collection of "adorkable marriage propsoals," this dude "doctorpappa," as he's known on YouTube, wearing a paper mache mask in the visage of surly robot Bender "Bending Unit" Rodriquez," and spitting binary code in an obvious reference to the 2007 direct-to-video feature "Bender's Big Score," based on the then-cancelled series "Futurama." (Comedy Central aired it in multiple parts, but anyway ...)

Rather than opening a portal to the past however, (as in "Bender's Big Score,"), this code allegedly maps out a link to some chick's future: A marriage proposal. Here's what the lucky lady (who had to decode this mess) told Geekologie:

My boyfriend told me I had to close my laptop for a couple minutes, then when I logged back on this was posted to my facebookwall. He sat across the room as I transcribed and then decoded it. After about a half hour I found out it says, "Rachel, you are awesome. Will you marry me?" I said yes, of course :B

Truly, it's a tribute to this woman's attention span and/or love that she made it through the entire 3:12 minutes to decode this mess, which proves, above all, that just because something's cute, doesn't mean it's cute for 3:12 minutes.

Plus, why have a menacing RC shark floating in the background if it's not going to attack? Talk about anti-climatic. Then again, why have a pile of laundry in the background (right) if you're asking someone to share your life?

With this latest geek marriage proposal to go viral, it is now apparent to even the most naive of Internet saps that these dorks are engaged in fierce competition, cranking out increasingly meta matrimonial inquiries in an effort to pwn (that's elder nerd speak for "summarily beat into submission in a humiliating fashion") all viral proposals that came before.

Let's just hope this latest hu-mon pair bonding doesn't end like this. (Scan the QR code with your smartphone to learn the answer, nerds!)
