On Tuesday morning, TIME magazine's short list of eight potential choices for its iconic Person of the Year cover was revealed live on TODAY. The list includes Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo!; Mohammed Morsi, president of Egypt; Undocumented Americans; Bill and Hillary Clinton; President Barack Obama; Malala Yousafzai, the student activist from Pakistan who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban; Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple; and the Higgs Boson and Italian physicist Fabiola Giannati.
As it has for the past 85 years, the weekly newsmagazine will select the person (or sometimes group, or thing) that its editors deem had the single greatest impact during the past year, for better or for worse. Last year's choice was The Protester.
Some 5.6 million people have already voted in TIME's reader poll. On Dec. 13, TIME revealed that the winner was Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of North Korea.
Also in the top 10 in TIME's reader poll: funnyman Jon Stewart; Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas; Burmese leaders Aung San Suu Kyi and Thein Sein; New Jersey's Gov. Chris Christie, and two choices who also made it onto the magazine's short list: Mohammed Morsi and Undocumented Immigrants.
TIME's official choice will come from this short list of eight, and will be revealed Wednesday morning live on TODAY, on TIME.com, and via TIME's Twitter feed.
Which is your pick?

I chose the President because he defied all the odds - 1st black President; won a 2nd term although the Republicans' agenda was to make him a 1-term president; 1st person to become president with an over 7% unemployment rate. He deserves to be person of the year
You're a moron!
mixed nuts, you do have a point, never would have thought an Indonesian Citizen would illegally occupy the Oval Office twice (two terms). (There are records of Obama's OWN mother changing his citizenship from American to Indonesian during his youth but NO KNOWN records of Obama changing his citizenship back to American from Indonesian)
As your name says Mixed nuts stick with nuts. Oloser is a disgrace to the US
Mixed Nuts: How many times are you going to post the same thing?
No one deserves it more than the teachers & children of Sandyhook Elementary!
Time.....OUT
The Person of the Year is not a person at all... it's a gun! Shootings have changed our lives this year more than any person has. If TIME had any nuts, they'd put a pic of a gun on the cover!
Guns did not change our lives but rather the SUBhumans behind the trigger that committed the crimes. Should knives be on the Cover because in China this month, another SUBhuman killed over 20 children with a knife?
This "Person of the Year" is bull$hit. Everyone contributes to our very being and one person can't keep the world turning. Even the most successful individual depends on others every day. Who served you the coffee and food that got you going this morning? Who cleaned and pressed your suit that you're wearing to the big meeting today? No one person should be recognized for doing a good job, unless it's within an organization.
I stopped caring when they gave it to W in 2004. What a joke. They also gave it to Hitler in 1938.
I lived in America another multi-culture world that speaks different lanuage usage.
as I stand with a positive interest to the united world, the united nation in the arms of America structure and the commonwealth of the people.
I agree with everyone who has suggested that the victims, both children and adult, of Newtown be named as "Persons of the Year". To date, this year, this has been the one event which has impacted this nation as no other has. It would also serve as a wonderful tribute.
And with that list that includes Undocumented Americans and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood...........Time Magazine becomes IRRELEVANT. What a f-ing joke
TIME Magazine: shilling for the Communist Party for over 60 years!
Well, actually most of the illegal aliens are "Americans". They're from Central America and South America. If you've ever crossed the US/Mexico border and the Border Patrol asks your citizenship, you would be well advised to state "United States" and NOT American. They get fussy about that since anybody on the North and South American continents are Americans.......BUT they aren't U.S. Citizens. IF Time magazine was worthy of any first or second thought, then I guess it'd matter, but they aren't worth any more respect than the Nobel Prize. I personally would recommend the folks that got thrown under the bus in our Libyan consulate areas.
They are actually a token few "undocumented Americans". These are Americans that illegally crossed into Mexico to run the Law in the USA regarding a crime that they committed but avoiding their court date.
OR you can illegally enter North Korea, Kim's Henchmen will ask why, as they torture you. You can say, "I just wanted to be the Time Magazine's Person of Year as an Undocumented American!" I am sure Kim's Henchmen would be so understanding and then release you from the Concentration Camp that is mislabeled as a "country".
I would chose either Malala or Dawn Hochsprung, either one, It's 50/50.
If your not documented, your not an American. Your a criminal, intentionally or otherwise. Bill Clinton is a pervert. Morsi is a tyrant who has already begun to further strip his citizens rights. Under Tim Cook, Apple stock has fallen and very public blunders have been made. Of the people on your list only one, Malala Yousafzai, has done a dang thing to advance human kind in any meaningful way. The rest are criminals, liars, useless (Higgs/Boson), or non factors. A very well put together list by your standards, Time... well done.
I would nominate President Barak Obama because he defied all the odds - he was the 1st black President, he overwhelmingly won a 2nd term although the Republicans' agenda was to make him a 1-term president, he was the first to win an election with an over 7% un-employment rate and I could go on. He deserves to be the Person of the Year.
So a group of college educated journalists sat around and came up with this list. No wonder the magazine is going bankrupt.
Poor people have little or no influence on society. For Time to propose illegal aliens as "Person of the Year" flies in the face of their own criterion: Someone who "has done the most to influence the events of the year."
The publishing business is in a tough battle and takes more hits every year. Time doesn't want to go down without putting up a fight but swinging wildly on social issues won't work.
May I suggest adding "hard-working Americans" to the list? I want to see if these are more popular than Mohammed Morsi.
Snooki.
I agree with a lot of the posters on here the victims of sandy hook should be on the cover. Someone should start a facebook campaign to make it happen
Undocumented Americans?? If you're here illegally, then you have no right to call yourself an American. You're an illegal alien at best, a common criminal.
