Our favorite so far this year is this spookily accurate rendition of the famously botched 19th century oil painting of Christ called “Ecce Homo (Behold the Man).” The get-up is known alternatively on the interwebs as the Potato Jesus costume and as Beast Jesus Fresco Guy. Isn’t it divine?

I am sick of the media making fun of Our Savior Jesus Christ. Christians won't cut off your head or crucify you, but the mocking needs to STOP.

I guarantee you - without question or shred of doubt - that Jesus is laughing at this just as hard as everyone else. He DOES have a sense of humor.

Calm down, Jake. No one is making fun of your savior. They are making fun of the painting of him that was botched. I think the joke was lost on you because you are probably too busy looking for slights against your savior than reading and trying to understand things in context.

Being religious myself, I actually find the costume pretty hysterical. This wasn't made to make fun of Christian belief so relax and take it in stride.

Kathleen~ telling someone to 'get over yourself' while you subsequently call their God imaginary, doesn't make you any better. You believe what you want, they believe what they want, to each their own.

By far though my favorite outfits are the children's outfits. The parents of the child in the wheelchair where very creative with the ice cream truck.

This is over-the-top funny!!!!!! I don't think anyone is "making fun" of Jesus here, just a zany old Spanish woman who thought she could restore a piece of art, when clearly, she was out of her league. "Potato Jesus" doesn't refer to the historical Jesus, but rather the ruined piece of art.

I say we bring Holy Jihad into the infidels very front-rooms that mock or disrespect Jesus Christ!

JUST KIDDING - Jake, chill brother. Jesus has to have a great sense of humor, he's allowed me to hang around this long hasn't he?

"Wasn't that an odd costume, dear?"

"Frightfully odd, ...I couldn't tell whether it was coming or going!"

I have a great sense of humor. It's just that everything isn't funny.

      Love it!!!

And Jake, lighten up. Show the Muslim world how to have a sense of humor and what free speech is all about.

Someone should make a costume out of the "big butter Jesus". A big lightning bolt could be Scotch-taped to his crown.

What about Jesus riding a dinosaur? Oh yeah, that's been done.

This is very disrespectful. Not only the costume but the comments! This is not honoring to God.

              Reply#15 - Fri Oct 5, 2012 10:14 AM EDT

The only person that has to honor anyone's god is the person that worships said god. If your god is so humorless, then he is obviously not worth worshipping.

Religion is for the weak minded. As Christopher Hitches stated, religion comes from the infancy of our species. Personally I have evolved past the need for it.

My favorites are the dog with the treasure chest, the Harry Potter and three-headed dog, and the green toy army guys.

So, about the actual NEWS ARTICLE? Did anyone actually see the images? I could see the first, and click on the top half of the second to see it, but the second one cuts off and you can't see past there. There is no link I can find to "see more". NBC< can't you do better?
